Appalachian Trail Hike
We started out at Bake Oven Knob parking lot, as the sun was setting. We
hiked the first mile in to the Bake Oven Knob Shelter. The good news
was that the rain stopped when we went to set up our tents. We were able
to get a toasty fire going and enjoy our hotdogs and baked potato's.
We began the next morning's hike
in the rain.
We made our way to the crest of Blue Mountain overlooking the PA Turnpike and
decided to break for lunch.
The clouds decided to open up and the wind came blowing in (short lunch
needless-to-say). We continued on to the Lehigh Gap
shelter and managed to start setting up camp during a a break in the rain.
It didn't last, and the last bit of set up was done in a downpour.
We enjoyed a deluxe dinner of freeze dried foods - yum, yum stew!
and snacked on left over cheese and salami.
Our last day on the trail was a
short one.
After we ate breakfast, the rain turned to sleet and hail. It did
not last long and as we hiked out, it turned to snow.
Can't wait for the next section
of the AP!!! Come join us.
