| Summer Camp @ Camp Spencer |
The provisional summer camp fee is $210. Sing up sheets are out, and Mr. Szabo is taking deposits.
Central Dining: Meals are served in the Jacobs Dining Facility. Meal service is cafeteria style. Waiters from each unit will set tables, assist with food service, and help clean up. Quality meals are prepared by our experienced cooks. Seconds on food items are usually available for hungry campers. After each meal, your unit will participate in the fellowship and crazy antics of the Spencer Staff!
For over seventy-five years the Order of the Arrow has been the Boy Scouts of AmericaÕs "Brotherhood of Cheerful Service." It is an organization of honor campers whose four-fold purpose is:
Order of the Arrow members are selected by their fellow Scouts during a unit election conducted by an O.A. representative from their chapter or lodge. Unit elections are usually conducted in the spring, but they may also take place at summer camp provided at least 50% of the active troop members are present. Elected candidates will be recognized at a Call-Out ceremony on Friday evening following the closing campfire. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In addition to holding unit elections and Call-Outs, Nentico Lodge offers many other opportunities to Arrowmen. At summer camp, an Ice Cream Social will be held for all Arrowmen. An opportunity will also be provided for members to seal their membership in the Order by becoming Brotherhood members.
For Out-of-Council troops, it is recognized that there is much value in having a Call-Out at summer camp. If this is desired, a letter of authorization must be issued by the home Lodge Chief. The unit election must be conducted before summer camp by the home lodge. The letter of authorization and the ScoutmasterÕs copy of the TroopÕs elections report must be presented to the Order of the Arrow representative at the summer camp. Call-Outs will not be conducted unless all paperwork is in order. Following the Call-Out, the candidates will receive invitations from their home lodge to participate in their LodgeÕs Ordeal.
Nentico Lodge 12 is the Order of the Arrow Lodge of the Baltimore Area Council. Feel free to visit the

New Scouts can register in the First Year Camper program. First year campers from all the troops in camp are joined together to learn basic Scout camping skills, some of which include requirements for Tenderfoot Scout. They will have the opportunity to complete a couple merit badges as well.
The camp staff runs this program, and the Scouts attending are involved for much of the program time each day.
Unit leaders should make sure that Scouts who wish to attend this program are registered for it at check-in. This is a great way to ensure that a Scout's first week at camp is a great week at camp
Below are the Merit Badges offered at Broad Creek, listed in alphabetical order. Eagle-required badges have a white border; others have a solid border. During the Trail to Eagle Specialty Camp, other Eagle-required badges are also offered.
The links to the left take you to pages describing other aspects of Boy Scout Summer Camp at Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation.
With all merit badges, Scouts should become familiar with the requirements before coming to camp. Pamphlets may be purchased and studied prior to a Scout's arrival to insure his familiarity with the merit badge toward which he chooses to work.

There are many outpost camps around Broad Creek. Your patrol or troop might want to take an overnight to one of them while at Summer Camp.
A SCUBA diving program will be available each week! Scouts spend from 9 to 3 each day at Guppy Gulch learning SCUBA diving. A Scout must be 14 years old in calendar 2004 to participate. More about this is the near future. Watch the Web site and the Area Scouter.
The Mason-Dixon Trek is a week long program for scouts ages fourteen and older. Participants will be led on a trip by two staff members outside of the normal summer camp experience.
Other Special Program Features of Broad Creek Summer Camp include:
An experience to challenge the older Scouts. This is a combination hiking, canoeing and kayaking trip up the Susquehanna River into Pennsylvania. Scouts will hike down Broad Creek to the marina at Broad Creek Landing. There they will pick up the canoes and kayaks. They will paddle six miles north on the Susquehanna River to an exciting overnight adventure in southern Pennsylvania. Scouts will cook a wilderness dinner and learn of low impact camping. After a trail breakfast they will paddle back down stream to camp before the morning merit badge classes begin.
Another new program is the Kayak Challenge. An exciting new experience on Lake Straus, as well as on the Susquehanna River. Scouts learn the skills of kayaking that could be used on white water.
An exciting new program being offered is our Mountain Biking Adventure. A mountain biking course is setup on three skill levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The camp will have several bikes available for Scouts to check out; however, we encourage Scouts to bring their own equipment and helmets as longs as they meet our standards.
You can participate in the Sailing Programs and work on the Sailing merit Badge (additional fee of $175) or go for the week long Sailing trek (additional fee of $500). There is a SCUBA specialty program (additional fee of $225), or kayaking (additional fee of $150), COPE (additional fee of $10) or the Mason Dixon Trek - with no additional fee. If you are interested, we must provide a $50 deposit to reserve your slot.
